Beginning Monday, August 29th we'll be switching from our plastic-based silver insulated liners to paper insulated liners in some areas. We look forward to adding these to your box soon!
With all Imperfect Foods packaging, we aim to source the most sustainable options possible that first and foremost ensure the integrity of your groceries. We're excited to be one of the first e-commerce grocers offering a 100% paper-based liner that:
- Does a great job protecting your perishable groceries
- Is made of 50%+ recycled content
- Is easily curbside recyclable
- Has a lower carbon footprint than our silver, #4 plastic-based insulated liner
Our East Coast customers will be the first to receive this innovative packaging, and we're excited to include it in other areas once we have plenty in supply.
We don't collect these new paper-based liners through our Packaging Return Program (PRP) primarily because they're one of the most commonly accepted items in recycling! Through our PRP, we aim to collect packaging that isn't curbside recyclable or packaging that we can safely sanitize and reuse. This includes our silver insulated liners and egg carton liners-- these #4 flexible film plastics need to be collected in massive amounts (literal tons!) to be recycled today.
By providing a free recycling and reuse service for the hardest-to-recycle materials for all our customers, we can ensure we're serving as many folks as possible and keeping as much material as possible out of the landfill. In the past eighteen months alone, our customers have kept over 6.5 million pounds of hard-to-recycle packaging out of landfills!
